NEPPC called for action in holding Government to account
A delegation from NEPPC and Monaghan Anti Pylon Campaign (MAPC) met with the Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams and elected representatives Caoimhghín O’Caoláin and Peadar Toibín and Councillors Paddy McDonald and Cathy Bennett in Leinster House to request their support on a number of actions:
- The continued challenge to the Northern Ireland planning approval and the need for political intervention when the NI Assembly recommences.
- The challenging of this Government to holding EirGrid to account for its continued non-compliance with An Bord Pleanála approvals, with the recent breaches of planning conditions on Laois-Kilkenny project being cited as the latest example.
- The support of the party’s local councillors in ensuring that the Council executives ensure EirGrid follows due process on the N-S Interconnector.
NEPPC highlighted the consistent support given by Sinn Féin over the last 10 years and the very practical help given in planning meetings with the Belgian Transmission System Operator and the EU Commission.
Mr Adams highlighted the long standing support given to the objective of undergrounding the N-S Interconnector and pledged his party’s willingness to continue the fight against the unwanted and unnecessary overhead lines and pylons.
